What is Music Therapy?

According to the American Music Therapy Association, “Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence-based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship by a credentialed professional who has completed an approved music therapy program.”

Who Benefits?

Many people can benefit from music therapy no matter the age or diagnosis. Some examples are children and adults with intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, communication disorders, or learning disabilities.

What are the Goals?

Goals are determined by each person’s individual needs. Some examples include communication goals, development of fine and/or gross motor skills, social skills, coping skills, academic skills, and many more.

How Does it Work?

Music Therapy can occur through individual or group sessions by board certified music therapists. Sessions can be 30-60 minutes depending on a person’s need.
